01

Functional dyspepsia which is
called neurogenic indigestion

The most common gastrointestinal problem we experience is functional indigestion.
Functional dyspepsia is a term for the case where there is upper-middle abdominal pain or feeling of over-fullness and bloating after meals, or where those signs continuously show for more than 12 weeks.

Most of the cases, there are symptoms but any abnormal lesions are not detected from endoscopy. Therefore, when functional dyspepsia is suspected, it can be cured by taking medication after having a consultation with a specialist. Also, steady exercise and regular lifestyle can help cure functional dyspepsia.

02

Peptic ulcer on inside lining of stomach & duodenum

Major symptom of a peptic ulcer is burning stomach pain when it is empty. When this stomach pain interrupts sleep, drinking milk or eating some food can relieves the pain.
Peptic ulcer can be detected from upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. During endoscopy, a biopsy can be done and this biopsy helps identify whether Helicobacter pylori is in the stomach. When peptic ulcers are detected, ulcers in both the stomach and the duodenum must be treated. It is rare, but when there are complications such as bleeding, gastric outlet obstruction, enterobrosia, etc., they must be treated through surgery.

03

Accompaning nausea and vomiting,
acute/chronic gastritis

Acute gastritis is caused by excessive secreting of stomach acid when the lining of the stomach is weakened. Acute or chronic gastritis accompanies the symptoms of nausea and vomiting. Taking medication when the symptoms occur can cure it relatively fast.

04

Lump on inside lining stomach, stomach polyp

Polyps are lumps which form on the lining inside the organs. When they develops in the stomach, they are called stomach polyps. Stomach polyps are usually benign, and except special cases, they rarely become cancerous.

05

Malignant tumor in stomach, gastric cancer

When malignant benign develops on the lining of the stomach, it is called gastric cancer, and if the lesion is limited in mucous and submucous layer, and relatively shallow, it is classified as early gastric cancer. When properly treated, early gastric cancer shows more that 90% of 5-year survival rate and more than 80% of 10-year survival rate.

06

A bit of sour vomit and heartburning, gastroesophageal reflux disease

Gastroesophageal reflux disease is a condition in which the gastroduodenal contents mixed with stomach acid come backward into the esophagus, resulting in inflammation. Reflux esophagitis refers esophageal mucosal injury accompanied by inflammation, such as erosion, ulcer, etc. Generally, gastroesophageal reflux disease respond well to the treatment. However, it is considered that recurrence and cure is repeated for lifetime long, because it may be easily recurred and hard to be treated properly.

07

Caused by irritations of smoking,
drinking, hot beverages, etc.,
esophageal cancer

Esophageal cancer is developed by combination of various causes, but mostly irritations from smoking, drinking alcohol, drinking hot beverages, etc. play a role. Since early metastasis is a factor which makes prognosis of esophageal cancer worse, esophageal cancer is known that its prognosis is very poor with about 15% of 5-year survival rate. To increase survival rate, therefore, nothing is more important than early detection.
